At Mali Krog, children's safety comes first. Sharing toys works only when families can trust that toys are checked, cared for and presented honestly.
We want every toy to be ready for its next adventure.
1. Toy selection
We aim to include toys that are suitable for the intended age group, have an identifiable manufacturer or source where reasonably possible, and can be inspected, cleaned and maintained appropriately.
Before adding a toy to the Toy Library, we assess its condition and suitability for sharing.
We will not knowingly circulate a toy that presents an unacceptable safety risk.
2. Age recommendations and warnings
Each toy listing will display the manufacturer's recommended age and relevant safety warnings where available.
Age recommendations are important and must be followed. They do not replace adult supervision or an assessment of the individual child's development and abilities.
Where small parts, magnets, batteries, cords, sharp edges or other hazards are relevant, the listing and accompanying instructions will highlight the applicable warnings.
Toys must be kept away from children for whom they are not suitable.
3. Inspection before rental
Before a toy is made available for another rental, Mali Krog checks it as appropriate to its type and condition.
Checks may include:
- looking for cracks, broken parts, sharp edges and other damage;
- confirming that essential components and accessories are present;
- checking that moving parts, fastenings and mechanisms function as intended;
- inspecting electrical components and battery compartments where relevant;
- reviewing applicable warnings and manufacturer instructions;
- removing toys that appear unsafe or cannot be checked adequately.
The inspection process will be adapted to the toy's materials, age, design and foreseeable risks.
4. Cleaning and hygiene
Toys are cleaned between rentals using methods appropriate to their materials and the manufacturer's instructions.
Where applicable, removable fabric components are cleaned according to their care labels.
Toys that cannot be cleaned adequately or that present a hygiene concern will not be returned to circulation until the concern has been resolved.
Members should follow any additional cleaning or care instructions supplied with a toy.
5. During your rental
Please:
- supervise children according to their age, abilities and the toy's intended use;
- follow the manufacturer's instructions and all safety warnings;
- check toys periodically for damage or loose parts;
- keep small parts away from children who may swallow them;
- store toys safely when not in use;
- stop using a toy immediately if it appears damaged or unsafe.
Do not modify toys, remove safety features or attempt repairs without permission.
6. Reporting damage or a safety concern
If a toy breaks, loses an essential piece or appears unsafe, stop using it and keep it away from children.
Contact [Business email] as soon as possible. Include the booking reference and photographs if safe and appropriate to do so.
We will assess the issue and explain whether the toy should be returned, isolated or handled in another way.
Reporting a problem promptly helps protect the next family.
7. Recalls and unsafe toys
If Mali Krog becomes aware of a potential safety defect or recall, the affected toy will be reviewed and, where appropriate, removed from circulation.
We may contact affected members with instructions to stop using the toy and arrange its return.
Where required, we will take the relevant steps under applicable product safety law.
8. Returning toys
Please return toys with their included components and accessories and follow the packing instructions.
Normal signs of use are expected and are not charged to members.
Significant damage or missing components will be handled under the Trust Deposit and Toy Care Policy, with an individual assessment and a proportionate approach.
9. Our commitment
We will take reasonable care when selecting, inspecting, cleaning and circulating toys.
However, no inspection or cleaning process can eliminate every possible risk. Parents and caregivers remain responsible for appropriate supervision and compliance with the toy's instructions and warnings.
We welcome feedback that helps us improve the safety and quality of the Mali Krog Toy Library.
